The Great Synagogue
Since 1878, The Great Synagogue has been home to a thriving congregation and remains a vibrant hub for prayer, learning, support, and celebration. As one of Australia’s most recognisable and visited Jewish landmarks, it has been a majestic feature of Sydney’s cityscape for over 140 years, facing Hyde Park with its striking architectural beauty. We are honoured to be entrusted with this significant project and extend our gratitude to the Board of Directors, Rabbi Dr. Benjamin Elton, David Lewis and Rabbi Menachem Feldman for the opportunity to contribute to this historic institution. Special thanks to Adam Pisk and George Bensen for their collaboration in bringing this vision to life.

Project Scope Overview – DA & CC Approved | PCA Appointed
Stage 1: Internal HVAC Upgrade (Completed)
We are overseeing the upgrade of the internal air-conditioning system, coordinating design, consultant teams, and stakeholder requirements to deliver a high-performance and integrated solution.
Scope Includes:
Installation of 20 New Daikin VRV systems and fan coil units
Crane operations, fire-rated pipework, and smart controls
Custom joinery integration and compliant penetrations
Detailed load management and electrical interface
Flooring reinstatement and finishing works
Full compliance and warranty documentation
Stage 2: External HVAC & Roof Replacement (Work In Progress)
Tender documents have been prepared and are currently in the market. This phase includes:
Mechanical Systems Replacement
Removal and replacement of outdated water-cooled units and cooling tower
Upgrades to condenser pipework, MSSB, and associated plant
Roofing Works
Structural assessment, new roof system, flashings, and stormwater allowances
Coordination of crane lifts, safety systems, and compliance sign-off
Stage 3: Lift Upgrade & Entry/Auditorium Expansion (Tendering Stage)
We are currently managing the tender development process, including finalising the project brief, consultant documentation, and delivery strategy for:
Lift modernisation
Auditorium expansion
Entry-level upgrades
Our Role
As Development Managers, Cardo Property acts as the client’s representative and facilitator, coordinating the right consultants, approvals, and processes to bring complex projects to life.
Our role is to:
Define project objectives and prepare early feasibility assessments.
Coordinate consultants and manage design and approval pathways.
Facilitate engagement with authorities, councils, and stakeholders.
Oversee tendering and procurement strategy.
Monitor delivery, compliance, and quality assurance through to completion.
We do not act as builders, certifiers, or contractors. Instead, we ensure the right professionals are engaged, aligned, and supported so that our clients remain fully informed and their interests are protected at every stage.
